Event Roundup: Support your local musicians!

You've made it through another week, phew! Congratulations. Here's to all the unsung heros of Prague who get out of bed every morning. It doesn't sound like much, but some days, it's damn hard. It's the weekend, y'all. Have fun! You deserve it.

Friday:

Dinner:
-From the maker of life-altering lasagnas, Michael Corkery, comes this gem of an event at Gallery Hunger(U Rajské Zahrady 2), at 8 p.m: It's 99 Kč for an all-you-can-eat portion of beetroot lasagna with gorgonzola. And it's BYOB. Make sure to RSVP on facebook here or reserve a spot by calling.

Music:
-At the top of the list for me tonight is definitely the show at Akropolis. Seriously, y'all, this is as good as a lineup with all local bands will get: Ken Nash, Justin Lavash, Monika Načeva and Ocean vs. Daughter. Starts at 7 p.m., so get there on time, there's a 10 p.m. curfew. Tickets were 140 kč on presale, door cover is 170 kč.

-If Malá Strana is more your groove, make sure to wish local singer/nightingale Kate Powers a Happy Birthday at her birthday show at St. Nicholas Café (Tržiště 10) at 8 p.m. Free entry.

-And if a little touch of the Irish is what tickles your fancy, go see Seanin Hawthornwaite at the Royal Oak (Anny Letenské 18) tonight at 8 p.m., free entry.

Movies:
-I simply can't bring myself to just randomly pick stuff for you from the ginormous line-up of films that you can see at Jeden Svět or One World film festival, so here's a link to today's program in English. All I can say is you'd be a fool for missing out on it.

Saturday:

The Arts:
-I went last weekend and can only recommend it:The Czech Press Photo exhibit at the Old Town hall features the best of 15 years of Czech press photography. I believe it's about 100 kč to get in. Well worth it.

-Another exhibit is on at the City Gallery Prague space over in Old Town, open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It's 120 kč to get in. More info here.

Music:
-Alasdair Bouch and Julian Knapp play the super cozy Vinohrady hangout Sofa Lounge (Vinohradská 32) at 9 p.m. No cover.

-Right around the corner, at The Royal Oak, you can hear some yodellin' from Yodellin' Sam, who describes his style as "s classic and retro country amd honky-tonk." Howdy. Starts at 8 p.m., no cover.

Movies:
-I'm just gonna wind up repeating myself, but go see something at One World. I'll shut up once it's over, but till then, I think we all need to get our human rights on.

Sunday:

Breakfast:
-Start the day out right with brunch over at Gallery Hunger. You can either get schooled on how to make brunch foods yourself, such as Quiche Lorraine, in that case it's 500 kč and you should prolly RSVP here or here. If you just want to eat, it's 175. Starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.

Music:
-Later, at the same venue, you can here local singer Peter Boyce le Couteur sing. Seeing Peter live is always great fun, so I say why not? It's only 50 kč to get in, but you do need to RSVP if you wanna eat a simple mushroom risotto which is available for 99 kč, too.

Movies:

-Have I mentioned One World?

-There's also a German film nite at Shakespeare and Son's over in Vršovice (Krymská10). This Sunday's movie is Crossing the Bridge by Faith Akin, a German director with Turkish roots. It's free. English titles, y'all!

-Or, another free movie to be watched at a bar is the classic Taxi Driver which is showing at The Globe (Pšstrosová 6) at 8 p.m.

And that's pretty much it.
