Events Roundup: That Time of the Month

You know, the Ides. Of course everyone knows this as the day that Julius Caesar was stabbed, mainly because Shakespeare dramatized it. But did you know that the Ides of a month don't necessarily fall on the 15th? No! The Ides is only the fifteenth of March, May, July and October. The Ides fall on the 13th of the other months, at least in ancient Roman times. In any case, I hope your Ides goes a lot better than Caesar's did. Besides that one infamous and unfortunate example, the Ides were actually considered an auspicious time, unless you're a tyrant.

-Do you remember hearing a gypsy brass band version of Born to be Wild in Borat? I don't. But the band that made it all possible is playing tonight at Akropolis. Fanfare Ciocarlia from Romania, the "fastest brass band in the world," is playing at 7 p.m. for 300-350 crowns.

-Strahov Klub 007 hosts four bands tonight, three from the U.S. starting at 6 p.m. Wive, Bombee, Pontiak and White Hills. Did you know Klub 007 is forty years old?

-Get an early start on St Patrick's day with the Celtic Whisperer tonight at 7:30 at newly opened James Joyce, part of the Irish Music Festival being put on at Caffrey's and James Joyce this week.
