Tongue-thaied: How Thaioshi left me speechless.

Spoiled by the fantastic Sripaphai in Queens, I've since approached Thai food very sceptically. It's one of the world's cuisines that, if executed badly, can taste downright disgusting, with dishes typically coming out as a mess of sweet and bland overcooked vegetables.

Here in Prague, my love for thai food was the driving force behind a brave quest for the perfect green curry, and I was disappointed, more or less over and over again. Sure, Noi does a nicely executed version of it, but, for lack of a better word, it's too clean, not soapy and fishy enough. And while it's absolutely beautiful, prices are really steep, and homegirl don't roll that way.

Modrý Zub is okay, but the athmosphere sucks.

So when I heard that some of the folks involved in Nusle's now defunct but really excellent Thaiko had opened a new location in Palmovka, I was really excited. But still never went, partly because I'm lazy and it's quite the hike. That said, after visiting Thaoishi (Novákových 9, Prague 8) last Friday, it's well fucking worth it.

Reason #1: Excellent beer!

Yes, I know, very unusual for a Thai place. Holba is a perfect lager and comes fresh from the tap.

Reason #2: Ok Athmosphere.

When I was told it was a bit of a "hole in the wall" place, I was expecting the worst, but it's actually kinda cozy in there.

Reason #3: Yummy spring rolls!

'Nuff said. Crunchy, filled with vermicelli, pork and cilantro.

Reason #4: The perfect green curry.

Seriously, there's no way you could prepare this any better. Perfect amount of beef, bamboo sprouts, holy basil leaves. It tasted soapy, fishy, perfectly balanced and very spicy, a rarity in these lands where Thai chefs fear sticking to authentic spice levels.

Reason #5: If you don't like spicy, you can still eat here.

One dinner companion has a very low tolerance for spice, and still loved his beef with red curry, repeating several times how superb it was. So there.

Reason #6: Best dizzert evah!

Yum yum to the yum. Black sesame ice cream was superscrumptious and the green tea flavor was just the right amount of bitter and sweet.

So put on your shoes, get yourself on the yellow line and go to thaioshi. You won't regret it.
